Food Lion was founded in 1957 in Salisbury, North Carolina, such as food Town by Wilson Smith, Ralph Ketner, and Brown Ketner. Rural King Weekly Ad February 19 - March 4, 2017

On June 5, 1960, Kermit Speer and Keith Beaird founded Rural King Supply in Mattoon. The original shop started in a former implement building of 7,200 square feet. The company started with Rural King Ad, except the owners. In 1963, an addition to the main building has been added. In 1966, was a warehouse building, and in 1970, a second addition to the store. A new building was completed and opened in September 1976. In 1999, a new store, warehouse and corporate office consists opened from 210,000 square feet across the highway from the old. The old shop and warehouse were donated to Catholic Charities.

In 2003, a 94,000-square foot addition added to the warehouse. In 2007, another 96,000 square feet to the warehouse. In 2010, a third warehouse expansion started that will add 104,000 square feet. In 1962, Kermit and Keith opened another shop in Paris, Ill., In an old packing house with eight rooms. In 1970, the land was bought across the Edgar County Fairgrounds and the new Paris Rural King erected. In 2001 the building was demolished and the current 55,000 square feet Paris Rural King building. Paris was Kermit and Pat Speer's home for 15 years.

The Vandalia, Ill., Is Rural King opened in 1966 in an old building on US Highway 40 East. A new Rural King building in November 1973 Van Tran Avenue, which was renamed Veterans Avenue. An addition to the building was completed in 1983. In 1979, Gary Melvin, cousin of Kermit Speer, bought an interest in Rural King. Gary began his career working in the shop, learn the products and services to customers.

Bruce Speer, cousin of Kermit Speer, bought an interest in Rural King in 1982, with the opening of Litchfield, Ill., Store. Bruce began his career as the manager of the Litchfield store. In 1985 he and his family moved to Terre Haute, Ind., Where he passed open and in that store for five years. In 1990, Bruce moved to the corporate office Mattoon to help with the purchase and expansion of the Rural King stores. announced in December 2015 Rural King reached them for the first time, $ 1 billion in total sales.

Fred Meyer Inc., a chain of hypermarkets founded in 1922 in Portland, Oregon, by Fred G. Meyer (not to be confused with Frederick Gerhard Hendrik Meijer, former chairman of the Meijer store chain, based in Michigan, with shops in the West). The company was one of the pioneers of one-stop shopping, eventually combining a full grocery supermarket with a Fred Meyer Ad, clothing store, shoe store, fine jewelry, home decor store, home improvement, garden center, electronics store, toy store, sporting goods store, and much more under one roof.

Fred Meyer stores are located in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. Before merger of the company with Kroger in October 1998, it traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol FMY. Although the company is now an entity of Kroger, the stores still branded Fred Meyer, and the western region of the Kroger Company is headquartered in Portland.

Fred G. Meyer, originally from Brooklyn, New York, his first stand on the corner of a busy highway in Brooklyn selling cherries. Meyer said he originally started his candle selling business because he "needed the extra money to buy a car." Meyer eventually expanded to sell his shop items for cleaning and grain, until he opened his first permanent place eventually in Portland, Oregon.
